The Westerpark area is named after the big park in
the quarter, around the Westergasfabriek, a former gas factory, that’s
now a cultural hotspot for expositions and festivals. The buildings,
designed in the Amsterdam School style are constructed in the late
19th or early 20th century. In Westerpark, there are also two famous
Dutch windmills, and some military fortresses built in 1900.
